To summarize the problem: there is a bad IR diode in the machine, and you can fix it.
Note: I have worked with this person (from tutorials and with parts) on a few ocassions and he has quickly sent me the parts I needed perfectly and quickly. His tutorials are very good too.
Step 1: Figure out if you Have the Problem
Is your roomba beeping 9 times and going in circles and backwards? Then you might have the problem.Step 2: Confirm it Under Diagnostics
Follow the beginning of this youtube tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Thomnr6lqng
Step 3: Decide if YOU should be Fixing it
"Should you fix it" Guide1. Do you know how to solder? If no, then buy the pre-soldered part. See solution A/B.
2. Do you feel comfortable taking apart a machine under guidance? If no, then let someone else. See Solution C.
3. Have you ever worked on any machine (desktop/laptop) before? If no, then let someone else. See Solution C.
4. Do you have a soldering iron? If no, then let someone else do it.
If you pass these tests, then you can follow Solution D which has you doing the soldering, ordering the parts and taking and reassembling everything.
Step 4: Buy The Things You Need for Your Solution
A. Send him your parts and he'll fix it for you ($20)B. Buy the part already fixed ($40)
C. Send him or iRoomba your Roomba to Fix (Unknown cost)
D: Buy just the part you need to replace your broke ones ($7) [Includes Solder and 2 of the replacement parts]
Step 5: Fix IT!
Solution A/B: [order the pre-soldered parts]Soldering tiny things and parts on breadboards is a skill not every has. It takes calm hands, patience and care. You can burn yourself, and might anyway. Depending on whether you're patient or not or want to save money you can do A or B.
.
Solution D: [you're personally fixing the it]
If you can solder, then you're good. The tutorials will help you through everything.
